Stitchy update!

Yes! You read that correctly. I have been stitching.

I started on Faery Faces 66 on Friday but only had an hour and a half. But still I was desperate to get started.

As a writer I am what is called a pantster, in as much as I get started straight away and make it up as I go along. The planners research and prepare character profiles etc. before they start. I envy planners. But my mojo overwhelms me and I have to strike whilst the iron is hot and so I did...but with the stitching.

Here is Friday's progress..

And you can see the extent of my gridding, I have started on page 2, and the only other method I use is the loop method which I use for two reasons,
1.  It's easier to pull a single strand from the skein.
2. The back is less bumpy...evidence below...

Saturday I wanted to stitch but life got in the way, but when evening came I was able to get some stitches in and again on Sunday. Here is my final progress from Sunday night:

I never finished the shell pink because I went to the loo and when I returned 225 had done a runner! So that's paused for the moment and I continued with other colours.

When I was stitching the dark colours I had a moment of...what the hell is this going to look like...but then I remembered keebs wise words regarding trusting the pattern and am pleased to say that it is now more convincing.

So this evening I will stitch on...

Oh, and my stitching was accompanied by Hemlock Grove, Granite Flats & Residue.

  1. Great progress! I hate when my thread bobbins suddenly vanish. I often blame the cat, although I will usually find the bobbin in a "safe place" later.

    1. I did look at her suspiciously but she remained nonchalant....I have my eye on her though. The thing is, I know I never put it in a safe place, and boy have I searched. Ah well! Good job I still have so much left to do :)

  2. Great progress! I wish I had a dime for everytime my thread disappeared only to be found later hanging off my behind or Bam's behind.

I really wanted to love the loop method, but it's the other end of the strings, the two loose ones at the needle eye end that bug me more than humps. It's why I still knot (I know, HORRIBLE), because I like having the needle end closed up and it's safer than when you leave a bit at the end and stitch over them. I was never good enough to do that. I still have the same issue with one thread loose at the needle eye end but it's not so bad. I don't know why, after stitching with two threads for a while, one always ends up shorter than the other and, when it's loose, it pulls out before the other one and then you have to snip off the extra, stitch more, loose one through the hole, snip off more, etc. I waste so much thread that way.

For years I agonized over my humpy backs (no pun intended) because of the knots, but it has never been an issue with framing and no one ever sees the backs anyways, so who cares? I am still very envious of those that can do pretty backs, but you gotta do what's right for you.

    1. You don't stitch over the loose end, you pull it through the back of nearby stitches.

  3. Looking good! I think there's one moment in every large chart when you wonder if the charter knows what they're doing, but it always works out if you keep going.

    1. Thanks Bea, I sure do hope so! I know these JBGs have big foreheads but seriously...this one seems way too big.

  4. Great progress! I was introduced to the loop method this year and love it. Oh,your floss takes off, too? Thought only mine did that.

    1. I love it too - I find it so much easier to handle and less tangles. I will confess to occasionally using the odd not...but thats usually towards the end of a project when its the odd stitch here and there.
I am sure there is a floss rebellion about to happen! hehehe

  5. You've made a great start! I am not a fan of the loop method as I find that the thread doesn't lie as neatly in the stitches as 2 individual strands do. I might well be just me though! If I stitch with 2 threads I start with a pin stitch...no lumpy back and neater looking stitches for my way of stitching. It's a very personal thing though, lots of different ways of working so go with what is best for you!

I love it when you look at a project and wonder what on earth it is you're stitching, then it suddenly comes together and it all falls into place :) I look forward to seeing more of this :)

  6. I am not sure I know what a pin stitch is, I shall google it, I might just know it by a different name :)
The hair definitely had me and admittedly it does look like hair!
