PST: F is for ....Flights!

Flights

As a solo traveller flights are important...if you have booked it all within a package deal then that is great but these tips still apply...if like me you can't help but book your flights yourself then make sure that you know what you want. For example; I knew that the first time I flew to the US I wanted to go with Virgin, It cost slightly more but that was a priority for me. This is the very first start of your trip if flying so you need to make sure that it gets off to a good start.

Once all your flights are booked I recommend that you take advantage of being able to check in online 24 hours earlier, if you can choose your seats before check in then take advantage of this too. Budget airlines have so many hoops to jump through for flights such as adding a bag will increase the price, then they will try to sell you insurance and such. Don't pay to reserve your seat on a budget flight, it is rarely worth the money, and you pretty much choose your seat anyway. If you are particular about this then make sure you get checked in, are at the boarding gate in plenty of time and are first on the plane. But don't forget that your route may not be that popular on that specific day or at that time and the opportunity to swap seats is likely to be available to you if some seats are empty after take off.

Do you like to fly? Do you have any pre-flight rituals?

    1. I actually love turbulence during a flight adds some excitement to what feels like you are just sat parked on a runway - take-off and landing are really the only indications that you arent! lol
Fear not Andrea, I have train travel coming up!
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.

  2. I do the exact same drill, but with Delta. But I haven't flown since the "naked scanners" and hopefully won't fly again until they are gone! The flying I don't mind...it's security that puts the fear of god in me! I am horrible at dealing with it without some serious medication!

    1. Ok, well I was expecting naked scanners when I flew to the US, had heard horror stories about security and yet when I arrived, no such things, no problems at all with security, it turned out to be seamless and stress-free! Maybe I was lucky or maybe it depends where you fly into and at what times.

  3. I flew for the first time 2 years ago and now I feel like I want to zip around the world like crazy! Its so awesome! Why was I not doing this before? My ritual is to make sure I go pee before boarding, lol . And I like to leave lots of time for checking in and getting myself situated at the airport. I HATE being all rushed and anxious.

    1. I always arrive early and take my time. I like to go through all the gates and waste time in the departure lounge, I have noticed that this has become less lately as it can take a while to walk through all the gates and such. I also like to people watch and try and guess where people are going.

  4. I love to fly, and most of the time I fly alone. I'm one of those weirdos who loves take off and landing, and sits glued to the plane window whenever she can. I especially love long flights where I get to watch heaps of movies :)

    1. Haha! I hear you Trisha! I love take-off and landing and any turbulence. I love to watch as many movies as possible on the flight. It used to be that you would see films that hadnt been released yet but not so much anymore - which is kind of diappointing as that was an additional perk.
