My prizes and princesses!

I just pressed buy now on my computer! It appears that I have just bought two more books!

Scandinavian needlework and Made in France....

I really really really really really must have needed them :)

On another note the prize that I won in Donna's giveaway arrived.  Luckily it didn't have to come too far :)

I have spent most of today at my nieces christening and have arrived home to a lovely package.  My sister expresses her craftiness in cake making and she made her daughters christening cake....

Each smoke cloud coming from the train has a letter of her name in silver, she is called Ebony and here she is..

She has two older sisters, Layla (5) and Naomi (2) and here they are...
And here are some pics of my giveaway prizes...

I am a very happy bunny today :), and don't forget to put your name down for the stitch St nick exchange (deadline Sunday!)

What a birthday!

Hi!

Today was my birthday :) and I have had a good week and a great day.  I am very happy.  I met up with different friends through the week and was so lucky that by yesterday I had 10 cards waiting for me :), then today I had some more too.  Here is a pic....

I also had some craft themed gifts...one was a cross stitch kit..

and some HobbyCraft vouchers (guess where I am going tomorrow?).

I spent today in Oxford (I had never been before) and we had a great time, the town is nice and the weather was so mild.  But the company was definitely the best! One of my friends also gave me this book...I was smiling a lot today.
Two of my fave designs in this book are....the white rabbit...

and the envelope cushion case...

I cant stop flicking through the pages.  As I have spent all day out it means I have to have my yummy thorntons chocolate cake tomorrow!

Sadly, I haven't done any stitching but I did by some cushion covers that I can sew on at a bargain price and will try and get stitching tomorrow…

Finish and new book

I have finished my quote...

I have also succumbed and bought a book that I have been wanting for a while..
No doubt I will be stitching something from this book next :)

Underneath my header....

Ok, so my blog header has underneath it a small statement regarding my love of flowers and my occasional compulsion for feminist rants.  I have a confession to make about this. Actually I have two.
But before I make them I should say to any of my followers that this isn't about cross stitch.
The first is that the rants aren't exclusively feminist rants and they often digress into rants about society and the media's treatment, representation, manipulation and expectation of young girls and women. Is that feminism?
I suppose it is. But growing up I was under the impression that if you were a feminist then you were a shaven haired dungaree wearing lesbian man bashing political harpee! How many stereotypes are in that? And it was always something that you were made to feel embarrassed about. Suffice to say none of my friends ever outed themselves as feminists. If you are wondering, I am not a shaven haired dungaree wearing lesbian man bashing political harpee and I would go as f…

Oh the shame!

What can I say really but I am currently feeling a little embarrassed. Today started off quite well. I was at the local craft shop at opening time and picked up some wool and some 28ct light blue evenweave. My mum came along as she needed a few bits and she also bought me some new embroidery scissors - I think she was fed up with me borrowing hers. So with the sun shining brightly outside, I decided to stay in and sort out some of my sewing stuff as it was taking over my room. I am back living with my mum after separating from my husband (amicably) a year ago and although the room is large - I just cant seem to find any space.

Over the last year my husband has been bringing my things over, I sort them out and de-clutter and squeeze them into the room,  he came over today with some more stuff.......some sewing stuff.....?!

Its like Christmas - lots of gifts and a trip down memory lane.

I didn't realise I had any AWOL UFO/WIPS. But as it turns out I do. I am quite ashamed at how many t…

IHSW - still going

Just thought I would check in and let you know that the stitching is going well - in a previous post I mentioned that I had changed my mind about what I would stitch and have deided to stitch a traditional tattoo design from Ed Hardys book.

The tattoo I have chosen to stitch is..

You can see how far I am by checking out the slideshow in the sidebar. I am about half way and hope to finish it today providing I dont get distracted. I dont have all the colours that I need but I will substitute them with ones I do have and hopefully it will work out ok.

I hope that everyone else is enjoying their stitching and hermitting away :)

If you are unable to view my slideshow then plese see here: IHSW September 2011

The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver

I have a wordpress blog but I dont really use it - as I have intentions of using this one (ahem) prolifically?! - I have decided to move over some of my favourite posts of 2011. Fear not, I have probably only posted about 3 times so its not that big a deal.  I did read this book (see post header) earlier in the year and the more I think about it the more I realise how good a book it was and how much it has stayed in my mind.  At the time I was also reading another book called Love in the time of cholera which is set in a similar country and the themes relate to one another in the book. I also watched the film Frida (about Frida Kahlo) as that is a foucs in the Lacuna. So at the time it was confusing to say the least. The text that follows is

the blog post that I made at the time.

Image via Wikipedia I can't remember when I read The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. I have looked up the release date and it was sold as a paperback in 2000. I think I must have read it soon afte…
