Music Review: Little Donkey

I am what people would refer to as a Christmas baby. I wasn't born at Christmas but I do love Christmas. I actually love any excuse to get together with friends and family and celebrate being alive, whether that is at Christmas, at Easter, Halloween or birthdays. I actually think most things are excuse enough for laughing and spending time with those you care about. I would actually be much better at it if I was more sociable, hahaha.
Anyway, I have completely gone off topic…so, with Christmas being my favourite holiday season and my total immersion into everything related to Christmas; food, decorations and music, it was inevitable that a band named 'Little Donkey' would catch my eye!

LITTLE DONKEY
Their own Facebook about me description is much more succinct than the one I provided. So here it is;

Not to be confused with the biblical ass of Bethlehem, Little Donkey are a three piece folk-rock outfit hailing from Chelmsford in Essex.

Music Review: Tele Mori

The band I am about to review today is a band that I never met through Twitter! Shocking news, right? Earth shattering? Maybe not.

I found these guys through Spotify in what was a game of word association. It started with a friend saying lets send each other songs to do with America. I put in California and randomly selected a song called ‘California Year’ by The Brokenmusicbox. They're not bad, I would recommend checking out the track ‘Possible to Arrange’ from their latest album ‘A Life Less Underground’. I recommended this to a friend and she asked me to send her the track via Spotify. This resulted in me trying to desperately recall the name of the song…so I typed in Broken Music…and a new list appeared and Tele Mori were on that list as their album is called Sounds from a Broken Music Box.

It was a pretty long winded way of discovering them. But I was happy when I did. I listened to the album a couple of times and was impressed. I don’t know why it took me so long to see if …

Music Review: The Eleventh Hour Initiative

Where to begin? Again I have left it a while before writing another review, mainly due to writing more fiction, but I haven’t been listening to any less music. The observant amongst you may have noticed on the Music Review page there is a line that says: If you have any music recommendations or suggestions of who should be next on my review list feel free to email me! Well, after reading a fair few tweets by my Twuddy* @CrustyToon about a certain band called ‘The Eleventh Hour Initiative’ I decided that I would check them out and see what he was making all the fuss for and then he suggested I jump on the bandwagon ('scuse the pun!) and write a review of their latest Album 'Escapism'. So having had no other suggestions, how could I say no? Now, if any of you have been reading all of these reviews or have read the very first one about Amida then you may well remember I listed a step-by-step method that I was going to use when writing a review. For the most part that i…

Music Review: The Bloody Quills

Its been over a month since my last review. All I can say is that I lost motivation for a while. It happens to us all, right?! However, I am back, at the very least to finish what I started in the summer, and write the reviews that the lovely bands listed here agreed to be interviewed for. Its been on my mind and I have kept on saying, tomorrow tomorrow but today is today! No...really, it is.

Some of you regular readers (anyone?) may be wondering who has brought me out of my funk. The answer is a rock band based in Ireland. I would at this point tell you who is in it and such but all that is covered in the interview below. So without further ado, I introduce you to…

Another great Twitter find (or rather they found me) that managed to catch my attention when the lead singer Keith Grace (with pseudonym Paranoid Erik) kept tweeting random song lyrics! With my attention caught I clicked on the link to the bands website. The first thing that you are met with is a large amount of text, but …

Duke and the Darlings: Music Review

Surely you couldn't expect me not to blog about another Manchester band? So here it its...this band were getting mentioned a fair bit by people I follow on Twitter and I decided to see what they were tweeting about. I am glad I did.  The band have only been together since 2011 and so the back catalogue is not yet overflowing, not yet.

A twitter buddy of mine - can I coin the term 'Twuddy' (@luvthafrobro) thought they sounded like early Bluetones. I can actually remember having the Bluetones first album but I have real difficulty picking tracks for comparisons, mainly due to the fact that I get totally distracted and end up listening to everything, and so the Bluetones track I have chosen is my favourite from their first album - and quite possibly irrelevant, but lets have a listen to some early Bluetones anyway....

Bluetones - Can't Be Trusted'

They did remind me of  The Seahorses a bit...

So let me introduce you to...

Gaoler's Daughter: Music Review

Can you believe that this is the 8th band I have reviewed? No? Me neither. So far I have really been enjoying doing it, not only do I listen to the band being reviewed but I also have a listen to some of their influences.  There are never many comments but I hope you are enjoying reading them and discovering new bands with me.
This is where the review begins…
When I first saw the name Gaolers Daughter, my first thought was that it was a heavy metal band of some sort. I kind of expected that. Then when I went to their website (which has now changed) it was all black and white and the style of the text was all Megadeth-esque.  So, I clicked on the play button and was surprised! It wasn’t heavy metal at all. I have since learnt that the band name is a reference to ‘Wind in the Willows’ – I am sure all you literary types knew that (oh! the shame L ).
A few weeks ago, I saw that the band were looking for people to review their latest EP and offering a chance to go on their guest list at a…
