Unfriended [May contain spoilers]

[INTRODUCTION]
I went to see this film last night. It was the first film that I have seen in about two weeks and so I was really looking forward to it. I didn't have any idea what it would be other than having read a two line description. The online concept intrigued me and I was interested to see how it would play out.

H@me [may contain spoilers*]

[INTRODUCTION] I went to see this with my niece - the same one I saw Spongebob with! We actually went straight after seeing Spongebob as we were so disappointed and hoped this would cheer us up. I had heard mixed rumblings but we gave it a shot. I had also seen the trailer and thought it looked like a very similar premise to Lilo and Stitch - a much under rated movie if there ever was one!

Spongebob Squarepants [may contain nuts*]

[INTRODUCTION] I saw the trailer and thought it looked ok. I quite like what I have seen of spongebob. My niece (age 9) wanted to go and see it too so we did.

Furious 7 [may contain spoilers*]

[INTRODUCTION] What can I say? Does it need an introduction? Well, I have watched all of the films in the franchise and as soon as I heard that 7 was to be released I was very excited and straight away booked tickets to see it in the 4DX cinema (this is where you have a moving chair and special effects). I knew it would be bittersweet after the death of one of its leading actors (Paul Walker) but I love the films and wasn't about to miss out. It was released on Good Friday and I was there for the first viewing and ridiculously excited.

Get Hard (*includes SPOILERS)

[INTRODUCTION] I saw the trailer and decided I would need to see this film. Not least because I am compelled to watch almost all comedies (the good, the bad and the ugly!) but because Kevin Hart was in it. The last movie I saw him in was 'Ride Along' which I really found entertaining and I have also seen him in the BET TV show 'The Real Husbands of Hollywood'.

Run All Night (*includes SPOILERS)

[INTRODUCTION] I hadn't seen the trailer for this movie and no-one had recommended it to me. But I saw the poster and that it had Liam Neeson in it and thought...an action movie with Liam Neeson, how can that be bad? That's how I came to be watching this film yesterday afternoon.

Still Alice (includes SPOILERS)

[INTRODUCTION] I had mentioned an upcoming trip to the cinema to a friend and they had said that they wanted to see Still Alice, the film that Julianne Moore won an Oscar for, and I remembered that it was about Alzheimer's. It’s a topic that fascinates me and I decided that I should try and see it whilst it was still being shown. Last Friday, I chose to go and see it, and I am glad I did.

Unfinished Business (includes SPOILERS)

[INTRODUCTION] I saw the trailer for this film on TV…I think! But all I saw was Dave Franco. I have had a crush on the guy since his Scrubs days and if he is in a film then I feel it’s my duty to at least go and see it. So when I saw him I knew that I would be seeing that film when it came out in the cinema and that was where I found myself last Monday afternoon.

The Divergent Series: Insurgent (*includes SPOILERS)

[INTRODUCTION] About three weeks ago, I was browsing Amazon Prime looking for something to watch when I cam across Divergent, and with no better choice I watched it.

My view review...Now you see me

Hello,
I'm sort of back and I have decided to be extremely honest when conducting film reviews, and first up was a secret screening (as in we didnt know what it would be until it we were in our seats)and without further ado...
My view review…Now You See Me

A man whose face was hidden from the audience appeared to be recruiting magicians by giving them a Tarot card invitation. All those invited never questioned the invite but arrived at the location stated and only then when laying their eyes upon one another did they question their place in the magician hierarchy. Entering the room they are greeted with a magic trick that culminates in a virtual message.
Fast forward to one year later and the four solo magicians have now joined together as a team under the name ‘The Four Horsemen’ and are in Las Vegas performing an elaborate show. One that involves a live bank robbery. A magician who has made it his job to reveal how magic tricks are done lets us all in on how it was done. Anot…

Mini-reviews: Star Trek

Last Saturday, I went to the Cinema alone for the first time as an adult…I decided that the subscription that I paid for was underused by yours truly and so I would spend the day there and watch a few.

I can confess that I overdosed on films, I would have been fine at home but I guess it’s my age because but the volume was too loud! I also can’t watch 3D films, so 2D it was. I actually had a headache and felt nauseous when I left which was not related to the films, honest!

So I saw Star Trek, Mud, Deadfall (by accident) and 21&Over.

My rating:

Star Trek: 3.6

This is out of 5 and I should confess that even I think I am a harsh judge at times but let’s be honest shall we….

Star Trek

I know that Star Trek always has hideous accents and it’s almost a trademark now but they still annoy me, grrr! What with an Englishman being a Scotsman and an American being a Russian and a Kiwi being an American, it was painful at times. In addition to that, it took a good 30-40 minutes before the film actu…

Friends with Kids

I am not about to regale everyone with tales about my friends with kids but to give you a quick review of the recent film entitled 'Friends with Kids'. There are "spoilers" so if you don't want to have the surprise ruined...look away now! I should also add that I am sarcastic but not without due cause.
Why I decided to go and see this movie
The film is out on general release in the UK today (08/06/12) and my friend had FREE tickets to see it last night. I had heard briefly about the film, and the title alone was enough to tell me that I didn't want to see it, but I knew that this film would be something that my sister would enjoy. As my friend had offered me the tickets I decided to go with my sister (who has kids!).

The Trailer

I watched the trailer yesterday morning in order to get an idea as to what the film was about. I couldn't just assume that it would be bad based on its title, right?! A good example of that is Cougar Town. I love that show, but woul…

The Avengers: My view

Avengers (comics) (Photo credit: Wikipedia) Last night I went to see the latest movie release from Joss WhedonThe Avengers. I should probably add that we made the mistake of seeing it in 3D. I say mistake because I find it really annoying and it is still blurry even with the glasses on. Also, it was set in NYC.

Here is the trailer for the film, just in case you haven't heard of it and have only now taken a step out from underneath the rock you are snuggled under.
I can't say I really knew what to expect because I have not seen any of the movies associated with the individual characters. Such as; Hulk, Thor, & Iron Man. But I have seen a fair bit of Joss Whedon's work on TV and in Film. Most notably 'Cabin in the Woods' that was out last month.  I had seen the avengers trailer before I went and my initial reaction to that had been that it seemed absolutely dire. To be fair the trailer doesn't do the film justice.

But I have to be honest,and I wouldn't …

Who is up for some more dancing?

Morning,

On my last post we danced the night away because I had received a beautiful tree pillow in the Santa exchange that I done with Tiki.

Well, today she has posted that she has received my exchange! I am pleased as I was starting to worry that it wouldn't arrive.

The design i used was taken from a cross stitch cards magazine but I changed the colours (used the ones I had) and made it more sparkly.  I didn't opt for Christmas fabric as I have none in my stash (its shameful, I know) but I fond some that I thought was a rich enough colour.  I am happy with how it came out but obviously wish it was a lot better but all things I have learnt for next time! providing I do another one - it was hard to get an exchange partner this time. So if anyone would be interested in doing one in the new year then drop me a line :)

So, without further ado I will show you some photos I took before sending and if you like you can pop over to Tiki Stitches and see her photos.

On a not so happy note..…

A WIP update (2)

Morning!

On Wednesday afternoon I posted my stitching update on the horses kit that I bought at an exhibition and I had stitched in Monday and Tuesday evening.

On Wednesday evening I went with a friend to the Cinema and to dinner.  We saw Tower Heist. It wasn't as bad as I expected it to be in all honestly and it was very light-hearted.  We also went to Pizza Express :) We totally used the Orange Wednesday offers with 241 on the cinema tickets and cheapest main meal free on the Pizza Express.  You are also able to get your parking money refunded by the cinema if you go to get tickets before 6pm.  It all worked out really well and a cheapish evening at only £12 for tickets and dinner. On Monday my friend has free tickets to the cinema to see the preview of 50/50 with Jo-Go and Seth Rogen.  I wish films were released at the same time everywhere.  I am keen to see this film as I have a soft spot for Jo-Go and I am intrigued too after seeing him earlier in the year in Hesher.

But back to…

Underneath my header....

Ok, so my blog header has underneath it a small statement regarding my love of flowers and my occasional compulsion for feminist rants.  I have a confession to make about this. Actually I have two.
But before I make them I should say to any of my followers that this isn't about cross stitch.
The first is that the rants aren't exclusively feminist rants and they often digress into rants about society and the media's treatment, representation, manipulation and expectation of young girls and women. Is that feminism?
I suppose it is. But growing up I was under the impression that if you were a feminist then you were a shaven haired dungaree wearing lesbian man bashing political harpee! How many stereotypes are in that? And it was always something that you were made to feel embarrassed about. Suffice to say none of my friends ever outed themselves as feminists. If you are wondering, I am not a shaven haired dungaree wearing lesbian man bashing political harpee and I would go as f…

And so it begins..

This weekend is IHSW and I have been looking forward to it :) It is a great excuse to sew all weekend and when I tell people I am taking part in something they feel it is a more acceptable excuse.

So as my previous post says, I have decided to work on St Nick. Admittedly I have not yet started or today but about to (first day at a new job!) but I am just checking on my sky plus to see what TV shows I have recorded or will that will be keeping me entertained over the weekend whilst I sew...if youre interested in comparing them to your own.....
